After a two-year suspension from YouTube, the video-sharing platform has restored Donald Trump’s account. It should be noted that the former President was banned from all social media platforms following the 6th Jan insurrection at the U.S. Capitol in 2021. All of his social media accounts are now fully restored just in time for his expected campaign for the 2024 election. According to YouTube; “Starting today, the Donald J. Trump channel is no longer restricted and can upload new content. We carefully evaluated the continued risk of real-world violence, while balancing the chance for voters to hear equally from major national candidates in the run up to an election.”

Donald Trump’s First Post in Two Years

Right after getting his account reinstated, Donald Trump posted on the video-sharing platform for the first time in two years. He posted his first video titled, “I’M BACK!” which is an eleven-second video showing Trump talking at a rally and saying, “Sorry to keep you waiting. Complicated business. Complicated.” The reinstated account has 2.64 million subscribers and over four thousand videos.

Leslie Miller, YouTube’s vice president of Public Policy, said the decision to Donald Trump’s account was taken after the company considered the possibility of him inciting actual violence. “We carefully evaluated the continued risk of real-world violence, balancing that with the importance of preserving the opportunity for voters to hear equally from major national candidates in the run-up to an election,” she said in a statement.
