WhatsApp outage affected users in various countries when the popular instant messaging app experienced severe disruption

The popular encrypted messaging service, WhatsApp is now working on a feature to allow users to transfer their chat history when transferring to a different phone that is employing a different phone number, according to a recently published report by WABetaInfo.

The new advancement appears to be an extension of the capacity to transfer WhatsApp chat records from one device to another or from Android to iOS and vice versa. This is possible through a Chat History Migration tool, which is currently said to be in the testing stage. The Chat History Migration tool could enable users to transfer media from one platform to another.

Currently, WhatsApp permits users to change their phone numbers without losing any chats. It further enables the users to transfer their chat history if they are switching to a new device and phone number. But in this specific case, the new device should be aligned with the same platform as the previous handset.

In addition to it, the messaging service on Android presently does not allow the users to recover backups from iCloud and WhatsApp on iOS does not let it from Google Drive either. The messaging app’s expected feature should eliminate this limitation, making it possible to transfer WhatsApp data between iOS and Android. Furthermore, the migration feature will also incorporate media transfer such as pictures, videos, voice messages, etc.
It is important to mention that this feature is still under the testing phase and it’s not available just yet.
