WhatsApp is rolling out the new privacy controls for profile photos, about, and last seen status for android and iOS users.

WhatsApp is rolling out the new privacy controls for profile photos, about, and last seen status. The feature was under beta testing for quite a while but now it is rolling out globally for iOS and Android users. WhatsApp said; “To further protect your privacy online, we’re rolling out new options to your privacy control settings.”

WhatsApp’s new privacy controls will let you hide your profile

According to WhatsApp’s updated guidelines, the new privacy controls will let you can choose from the following categories of who can see your information: everyone, anyone in your contact book, anyone in your contacts excluding certain specific contacts you choose, and nobody at all. WhatsApp has also issued a warning in this regard, saying; “We encourage you to think carefully before you decide to share something with your WhatsApp contacts. Consider whether you would want others to see what you’ve sent.”

How to enable the new feature?

In order to use the new privacy controls, you can head over to WhatsApp’s Settings > Account > Privacy menu on iPhone and Android devices. WhatsApp’s updated FAQs discuss the feature in more detail. You can adjust your privacy settings according to:

  • Everyone: Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status will be available to all WhatsApp users
  • My Contacts: Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status will be available to your contacts from your address book only
  • My Contacts Except Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status will be available to your contacts from your address book, except those you exclude
  • Nobody: Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status won’t be available to anyone
