The long-awaited feature, allowing users to convert voice messages into text, is finally making strides towards implementation, promising a more efficient communication experience.

WhatsApp is working on a new feature called ‘Audio Chat’ which will be available soon in the future update. Although, the use case of the feature is still not clear but the report suggests that the space above the chat header could be reserved for displaying audio waveforms which will provide a minimalistic interface that allows users to view audio waveforms while navigating between their conversations.

How to Access the Audio Chat Feature?

According to the screenshot shared by the WhatsApp news tracker, WABetaInfo, the audio chat can be accessed through a new waveform icon located at the top of the group chat. It is unclear how the audio chat feature will differ from the existing audio recording feature. But, it will be similar to other voice chat platforms, such as Slack Huddles, Twitter Spaces, and Discord voice chats.

Once an Audio Chat has been initiated, there will be a hang-up button at the top of the screen to quit/stop the recording. WhatsApp’s audio chats feature is discovered in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.7.12 update available on the Google Play Store. However, its public release is yet to be determined.
