Meta is launching Facebook Reels API (application-programming interface), which will enable users to post reels from third-party applications and social media management tools. The company said in a blog post; “Facebook Reels API will enable 3rd party platforms to directly enable a ‘share to reels’ feature, removing friction for users previously using 3rd party platforms and then uploading at a later time to Facebook. This API will allow a one-button sharing directly from their preferred 3rd party platform.”

Facebook Reels API to be a Moneymaker for the Company

The CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, is cashing on the opportunity of trending reel culture to serve as a moneymaker for the company as Instagram users spend 26% of their time on reels. In the Q2 2022 results, Mark announced that users have spent 30% more time viewing reels than in the last quarter. Moreover, the company enjoys a revenue of over $1 billion when it comes to Reels ads.

Meta said that the developers can integrate Facebook reels API into their network to allow users to directly share Reels on Facebook pages from third-party apps using the “Share to Reels” feature. Meta mentioned that three of its launch partners have already integrated the API into their platforms, namely; Jellysmack, an economy-generating platform for creators; Sprout Social, a social media analytics tool; and Wix, the well-known website creation platform.

Cross-posting Reels from Instagram to Facebook

Meta has been emphasizing a lot on Reels as it is the most-demanded format in today’s world. Last month, Meta introduced the ability to cross-post reels from Instagram to Facebook. Moreover, Meta has also rolled out improved insights for Reels that will help users to analyze data such as reach, average watch time, total watch time, and other metrics that can help them understand how the Reels are performing.
