Facebook announced the splitting of its feed into two different types of tabs – Feeds and Home – that will be seen in its iOS and Android app. The new ‘Feed’ tab will enable users to see posts in chronological order from their friends, groups, and pages. While the ‘Home’ tab is where the user will land first as they open Facebook and it will have TikTok-like personalized recommendations for Reels and Stories.

The Point of Difference Between Feeds and Home Tabs

According to Facebook, the difference between Feeds and Home Tabs is that home is a discovery engine for users to find new content and creators through algorithmic recommendations, whereas the Feeds tab provides an easy way to access content from the people and communities the users are already connected with on Facebook.

While announcing the Feeds and Home Tabs, Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, said;  “Today we’re launching a Feeds tab where you can see posts from your friends, groups, Pages, and more separately in chronological order. The app will still open to a personalized feed on the Home tab, where our discovery engine will recommend the content we think you’ll care most about. But the Feeds tab will give you a way to customize and control your experience further.”

Return to the Basics

The new Feeds tab gives us a peek at the old Facebook days where the feeds were focused on activity and posts from our friends and groups. However, Facebook said that some of your friends’ posts may still appear in the Home tab. The Home tab will be surrounded by recommendations chosen by a machine learning ranking system while the Feed tab will have advertisements. The company expects the updates to be rolled out globally over the coming week.
