YouTube services went down in Pakistan for the second time during Imran Khan’s speech in Peshawar. Before Khan’s address, several users complained about the disruption in YouTube services which was ultimately resolved after the former Prime Minister’s speech.

Netblocks Confirm Disruption in YouTube Services

An internet tracker website – NetBlocks – confirmed the news of disruption in YouTube services in Pakistan. A tweet from their official Twitter account reads; “Confirmed: Metrics corroborate reports of a new disruption to YouTube in #Pakistan; the incident comes as former PM Imran Khan appears on screen to live stream a speech on the platform, following a pattern observed in August #PeshawarJalsa.”

Responding to the disruption news, PTI said that it will air its party chairman’s speech on Twitter Space if YouTube is having problems. The tweet reads; “If YouTube is not working for you, we will start a Twitter Space to broadcast Imran Khan’s Historic Speech at the #PeshawarJalsa. To the folks behind YouTube interruptions, #EnoughIsEnough!” Previously, Imran Khan has said that in Peshawar Jalsa he will “give a proper reply to all those who have deliberately been distorting my words to malign me”

Netizens Trended #YoutubeDown to Record their Protest

PTI supporters trended #YoutubeDown on Twitter and criticized the government for blocking the freedom of speech. The senior leadership of PTI also responded to the situation by saying that people will hear the speech one way or another. The former human rights minister Shireen Mazari said; “So YouTube blocked again suddenly by this fascist imported govt and its handlers. Really sick mindsets.” She added; “Imran Khan’s speech will be heard one way or another you petty frightened political pygmies. Never thought the state would use cyber warfare against its own people! Shameful.” PTI’s focal person, Azhar Mashwani, said; “What a shame, they will bring down whole IT sector down just to stop ppl from watching IK speech.”
