In a major step towards digital transformation and convenience, the United Kingdom has announced the rollout of e-Visas for most Pakistani students and skilled workers. The move, confirmed by the British High Commission in Islamabad, aims to make the visa process faster, safer, and more accessible for thousands of Pakistanis who travel to the UK for education and work.

Starting July 15, Pakistani applicants applying for UK visas of more than six months—especially students and skilled workers—will no longer need to submit their passports for visa stickers. Instead, they will receive a digital confirmation of their immigration status via a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) online account.

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott called the new e-Visa system more convenient and secure, noting that it allows applicants to retain their passports during the application process. The e-Visa will contain all visa-related permissions and can be easily verified using the UK’s “view and prove” service, simplifying verification for employers, landlords, and authorities.

The e-Visa system will apply to a wide range of categories including:

1. Students (including short-term 11-month study visas)

2. Skilled Workers (especially in healthcare and technical roles)

3. Global Talent and International Sportspersons

4. Temporary Work Schemes like charity and creative programs

5. Youth Mobility and Global Business Mobility routes

While dependents and general visitor visa applicants will still receive physical visa stickers for now, the UK government plans to eventually bring all visa types under the e-Visa umbrella.

For now, those with valid physical visas do not need to take any action, as their status remains fully valid.
