Pin Sharing and Downloading allows users to download and share their Pins across various social media platforms.

Pinterest launched a new feature for its Idea Pins –  Pin Sharing and Downloading – that allows users to download and share their Pins across various social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok. Idea Pins are aimed at creators who want to tell their stories using video, music, creative editing tools and more.

Pinterest’s Pin sharing and downloading feature

With the launch of the Pin Sharing and Downloading feature, the creators will first tap the “FB Stories” or “IG Stories” icon in the share menu, which will initiate a download. Once the download finishes, it takes the user to the Facebook or Instagram app with the story creation flow open and the watermarked Idea Pin video pasted in. It can then be edited and posted. Pinterest noted that Pinners can still share content to other social platforms. The download option provides the ability to quickly save and upload watermarked Idea Pin content onto other platforms like Snapchat and TikTok.

The significance of watermarked videos is that it will help Pinterest’s creators gain more views for the content originally produced for Pinterest and help them grow their following. Likewise, the video will also serve as a marketing tool for Pinterest. Though Pinterest’s watermarks may help reach the creators’ audience, other platforms will likely downrank content in their algorithmic feeds if it contains a watermark. As Instagram clearly explained that it will downrank low quality and watermarked videos.

Best practices for idea Pins

Meanwhile, Pinterest has shared the following best practices for Idea pins that will help them get noticed:

  1. Instructional and actionable: Use videos, images and text to walk people through the steps and make it easy for them to take action on the Idea.
  2. Use video: Video is great for telling a story and connecting with the audience. Start with a video on the first page. It’s your best chance to stand out and hook your audience.
  3. Make it personal: Idea Pins are not for sterile, polished content. Let your brand voice shine with our editing tools such as stickers, music controls, video filters and more.
  4. Pinterest’s profile highlights: With profile highlights, creators are also able to add Idea Pins to the top of their profile, enabling them to show off their most engaging and immersive Idea Pins.
