Google accidentally deposited cash in users’ Google Pay accounts – ranging from $10 to $1,000 – owing to the Google Pay bug. But, the excitement was short-lived as the company detected the problem and reversed the credited amount.
Google Pay Bug: Users Receive Money for Dogfooding
Dogfooding is a tech term that means that when a company releases a particular feature its employee test it and they receive a certain amount from the company for doing so, but, in this case, the amount was sent to Google Pay users instead of the employees. Google informed the user about the glitch and said that that would attempt to reverse the payment.l, however, if they are unable to do so, it seems the cash is theirs to keep.
A journalist, named, Mishaal Rahman, explained the incident saying that Google Pay seems to just be randomly giving users free money right now. He said; “I just opened Google Pay and saw that I have $46 in “rewards” that I got “for dogfooding the Google Pay Remittance experience.” Several Reddit users also received the same amount while one user reported receiving a whopping $1072.
