Bill Gates believes that the future of artificial intelligence is an AI-built personal assistant that would easily kill Google and Amazon.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates believes that the future of artificial intelligence is an AI-built personal assistant that would easily kill Google and Amazon. “Whoever wins the personal agent, that’s the big thing because you will never go to a search site again, you will never go to a productivity site, you’ll never go to Amazon again,” he said.

Future of Artificial Intelligence Can Be Scary for Tech Giants

Gates said that tech companies offer virtual assistants like Siri, Google Assistant, and Alexa but lack a generative AI-like approach. While AI chatbots, including ChatGPT, Bard, and Bing, can act like personal assistants to an extent, although we are at an initial stage but, personal AI assistants do not seem far from reality. “AI assistant will be able to understand a person’s needs and habits and will help them read the stuff you don’t have time to read,” said Gates during an event in San Francisco.

Gates said that AI would radically change user behavior, reducing people’s dependence on websites for searching, certain tools for productivity, and Amazon for shopping. Previously, he expressed apprehension over AI falling into the wrong hands. The tech mogul had argued that the technology may have already been on a runaway train.

AI to Reduce Inequalities

According to Gates, we have entered the era of artificial intelligence, which not only has the potential to enhance productivity but also address social issues such as inequity. He believes that A.I. can unlock resources and enhance healthcare and education access in countries currently facing limitations. This can be achieved by implementing appropriate policies and strategically allocating funds by governments and philanthropic organizations.
