Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the decision was taken as it had been raining since morning. He wrote on his official Twitter account; “Since 5 am morning heavy rain continues in Karachi and Hyderabad division. The government of Sindh declares tomorrow a public holiday in Karachi and Hyderabad divisions. The private sector is also requested to close their offices tomorrow.”

Prediction from Met Office

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that more rain is expected in Sindh, including Karachi and Hyderabad until Tuesday. PMD has also issued an urban flooding warning for low-lying areas in a number of cities in Sindh including Karachi.

Furthermore, PMD has asked the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh to take necessary measures and remain on high alert to prevent the loss of life and property in the province. According to the local rainfall data released by the PMD, the highest amount of rainfall received during the last 24 hours was in Quaidabad (4.5mm), followed by Saddar (4mm), Korangi (3mm), Gulshan-i-Hadeed (3mm), PAF Masroor base (2.4mm), Orangi Town (2mm), University Road (1.5mm), PAF Faisal base (1.5mm), Keamari (1.4mm), Jinnah Terminal (0.8mm), DHA Phase 2 (0.6mm), North Karachi (0.6mm) and old airport area (0.6mm).

Six People Killed amid Heavy Torrential Downpour

The heavy torrential downpour has claimed three lives in Karachi due to multiple rain-related incidents. PM Shehbaz has urged the elected representatives to supervise the rescue and relief activities launched by the relevant departments. He has also directed NDMA to assist the provincial governments and all concerned departments.
