In a move aimed at easing connectivity for visitors, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched a 120-day, FBR tax-free mobile registration for overseas Pakistanis. This initiative, designed to enhance the travel experience, ensures that mobile users from abroad can stay seamlessly connected without facing hefty import taxes.

The registration facility, introduced through an automated Temporary Mobile Registration System, allows travelers—including overseas Pakistanis and foreign nationals—to register one mobile device for free during their stay in the country. This tax exemption is valid for up to 120 days per visit, offering flexibility and relief for those visiting Pakistan for short durations.

First introduced in April, the system was part of PTA’s broader efforts to digitize and simplify mobile connectivity processes. By eliminating tax barriers for temporary visitors, the PTA aims to encourage hassle-free communication and eliminate bureaucratic delays at airports and customs.

Midway through the year, the impact is already being felt. Many overseas Pakistanis returning for vacations or family events have welcomed the decision, praising it as a long-overdue step toward digital inclusion. The tax-free mobile registration for overseas Pakistanis means more than just savings—it restores access to vital apps, banking services, and emergency contact without fear of service suspension or fines.

According to PTA’s official statement, the process is completely free, and users can complete registration online without paperwork or physical visits. The authority hopes this step will strengthen trust among the Pakistani diaspora and present a more welcoming face to international visitors.

This smart, user-focused policy signals PTA’s intent to modernize telecom access while prioritizing user convenience and technological freedom.
